News from the Strawberry Recreation District

 

Strawberry Tennis Courts
The four tennis courts at Strawberry Recreation District are for
SRD Tennis members & guests, SRD Tennis students, SRD Junior League team members, CAMP Strawberry and SRD Tennis Camp participants only.

MEMBERSHIP
Purchase your memberships and keys in the SRD Main Office
Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 p.m.

SRD Tennis Membership
Players must purchase a Tennis Membership with key each year. Membership dates are from April 1 to March 31 of the following year. Members are required to provide the staff with Strawberry photo ID cards when using the courts.

SRD Junior Tennis Membership
Juniors (under the age of 18 years) are offered a special price on Annual Tennis keys and photo ID. You do not have to be a Strawberry resident to participate. All four courts are lighted for evening play, too! See office for rates. (Note: Parent must sign waiver for a minor).
Please note: An adult on the family’s membership pass is charged the “1st Member Rate” even if a Junior was the first membership type purchased.

GUESTS
There is a required $3.00 per head guest fee. Guests must be accompanied by current members. Pay fees prior to court use: In Rec Office or use drop-box under Rec Office window after hours.
Please Note: ADDITIONAL FAMILY MEMBERS ARE REQUIRED TO BE ADDED TO PASS AND PAY APPLICABLE MEMBERSHIP FEES LISTED ABOVE PRIOR TO TENNIS COUR USE. COURT USE BY FAMILY MEMBERS AT “GUEST FEE:” RATE IS NOT PERMITTED.

COURT RESERVATIONS Courts #1 and #2 may be reserved weekdays by calling one day in advance. Weekend reservations can be made by calling 383-6494 Thursdays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Courts are available for reservation 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 12 noon to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays or Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Keyholders may bring guests on courts #3 and 4 only, and by reservation only.
Call 383-6494 for information and reservations. Please be respectful of our neighbors, tennis court hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Cleaning: Mondays 11 am - 2 pm Courts are cleaned every 1st & 3rd Monday each month.

Lights
ALL FOUR courts are lighted for evening play. Lights can be turned on at dusk and go off at 10pm. Simply use your key in the switch box on the court fence and lights will go on for 60 minutes. A bell will go on as a five-minute warning at the end of the hour.

Ball Machines
Now offering to "key holders" only, a BALL MACHINE with TWO baskets of balls for rent! Great workout! Come to the Tennis “Shack” during non-prime hours for "Check-out". Coordinate with Maurice Newman, Tennis Pro. 380-8836

2009 YOUTH TENNIS LESSONS
Tuesday Youth Tennis Classes
SRD will be launching the new QUICK START Tennis Program in the 2009 spring session. The program is designed to develop strong fundamental skills in a fun practice session format, creating life-long tennis players. The practice sessions are designed to nurture children under the age of 10 with age-appropriate, progressive and develop-mental practice sessions. The syllabus includes racquet control, ball control, hitting and receiving, serving, learning to rally, volley and scoring. As students progress they incorporate strategy, consistency, accuracy, umpiring and score keeping skills. SRD also utilizes ball machines for players as they progress.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This exciting new camp program is specially designed for children 4-7yrs looking for quality instruction and programs in a small and safe environment. Campers will arrive at “base camp” in their swim suits for a daily swim lesson (1:4 ratio) Campers will then enjoy game time, lunch and the outdoor playground or a natural science lesson before returning to “base camp” for arts and crafts (20 different summer projects for those attending all four weeks). Then upstairs to the gymnasium for movement, sports, yoga, cooking, and more!  Then off to a daily one-hour tennis lesson with our USPTA Tennis Pro, Maurice Newman and staff. Each day begins and ends with circle time creating a strong sense of belonging for each young child.  Campers will stay together and all transitions and activities will be supervised by our new, yet very experienced, SRD summer staff, under the direction of Jane Pavis and new SRD District Manager, Leanne Kreuzer.
This setting is perfect for creating a magical summer experience for every young child! Tennis racquets will be provided. Please pack a lunch, snack, hat, sunscreen, re-usable water bottle, and a sweat jacket.

TENNIS CAMP

Students of all age and ability levels will be taught tennis fundamentals in this dynamic tennis camp environment. Students will progress at their own pace as they practice stroke development, racquet control, ball control, hitting and receiving, serving, learning to rally, volley and scoring. As students progress they incorporate strategy, consistency, accuracy, umpiring and score keeping skills. Students will practice tennis etiquette as they participate in goal- oriented matches. Awards and refreshments are included in each session. All players must bring a tennis racquet and wear appropriate tennis shoes. Please bring a tennis racquet, lunch, hat, sunscreen, swim suit, & towel.

The Marin Junior Tennis League is for boys and girls ages 9 through 14. League matches are played against other Marin County teams throughout the season. Matches may be schedule on home courts are away at local clubs. The schedules are posted below under “Dates”.

ADULT TENNIS

Adult Tennis Workshop
Tennis skills are focused on the Scott Ford Theory of Stroke Development including hitting, contact point in proper place, volley, service, service return, and tracking the ball. Instruction will also include the David Bailey Method for footwork and movement. Movement drills will focus on toughness while having fun.
