About Us

Our Mission
The mission of the Strawberry Recreation District (SRD) is to enrich the quality of life in our community by offering a diverse range of recreational programs, parks, and facilities that promote health, wellness, learning, and fun.

Who We Are
Established in 1949, the Strawberry Recreation District is an independent state special district serving the unincorporated waterfront community of Strawberry and its surrounding areas in Marin County, California. Located just 10 miles north of San Francisco, Strawberry is home to approximately 6,000 residents, including professionals, entrepreneurs, young families, and retirees who enjoy the area’s scenic waterfront, parks, and trails.

SRD offers year-round programs, classes, memberships, events, and recreational opportunities for all ages. Though not affiliated with a city, SRD is funded in part by a small portion of local property taxes—3.5 cents per dollar of basic tax paid to Marin County—which accounts for roughly 15% of our annual revenue.

The remainder of our revenue —approximately $3 million—is primarily funded through program participation, facility rentals, and memberships. SRD must generate sufficient net income to cover rising operating costs and fund essential maintenance, repairs, and improvements to our aging facilities.

Why Your Participation Matters
When you participate in SRD programs, attend events, become a member, or refer a friend, you directly support the continued upkeep and enhancement of this vital community resource. Every dollar spent goes right back into maintaining and improving SRD’s offerings and facilities.

Meetings are open to the public and may be held virtually or in person. Please check our website for current scheduling and meeting details.

Youth Scholarship Program
In partnership with the Tiburon Peninsula Foundation, SRD offers a Youth Scholarship Program for Marin County residents under the age of 18. The program aims to ensure that all children have access to recreational opportunities, regardless of financial circumstances.
