Swim Lessons – Class Descriptions & Schedules
Please read all descriptions in detail to find out the most appropriate class for your child. If the appropriate class is full, add your child’s name to the wait list. Do not sign up for a different level class.
If you enroll in a class that SRD staff assesses is too easy or too difficult for your child, we will do our best to move them to a more appropriate class if available. If the appropriate level class is not available, you will be issued a household credit for the remainder of the classes in the session, minus a $25 cancellation fee.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Parent/Child Swim Lessons – $22/class
- Ages 6-months – 3 yrs.
- In this class, parents will join their child in the water with one of SRD’s swim instructors and learn the safest ways to swim with baby. This is a water introduction class taught with songs, toys and fun activities. Children will be introduced to kicking, scooping, climbing out of the pool, jumping in, floating on their back and going under water all with the support of their parent. This class is not designed as a learn to swim class – we ask that everyone registered participate in the class and follow the instructions given by the swim instructor!
Class Length: 25 minutes
Orange (Beginner) – $25/class
- Ages 3 – 5 years.
- All students must be at least 3 years old. This class is designed for those who have never taken a swim lesson before, have only take a couple of lessons or hesitant in the water. Children will learn how to safely be apart of a group class, blow bubbles, submerge underwater, kick with assistance, float on their front and back, doggy paddle, scoop and kick, climb out of the pool and push off to a swim instructor with kicks.
Class Length: 25 minutes
Yellow (Beginner plus) – $22/class
- Ages 3 – 6 years old
- Benchmarks: Students must be able to float on their tummy and back with little to no assistance, push off to a swim instructor with kicks 3-5 feet, have knowledge of doggy paddle and be able to take beginning scoops.
- Children in this class will learn to scoop and kick on their tummy, kick on their back with little to no assistance, roll from their belly to their back and float, lift their head to breath while swimming, jump in the pool and swim/kick to the wall, and swim up to 10 feet.
Class Length: 25 minutes
Green (Intermediate) – $22/class
- Ages 4 – 6 years old
- Benchmarks: Students should be able to scoop and kick on their belly and back 10-15 feet unassisted, take a head up breath while swimming, float on their back 15-30 seconds unassisted and be comfortable in the main pool.
- Children in this class will learn to side breath with freestyle, strengthen their technique with both freestyle and backstroke, increase endurance in both freestyle and backstroke, learn breastroke swimming, how to tread water and use a kickboard. This class will introduce deep water, 5-9 feet deep, by treading water and going off the diving board if available. The goal of this class is for children to be able to jump off the diving board or in deep water and swim to the side unassisted.

Blue (Advanced) – $22/class
- Ages 4 – 6 years old
- Benchmarks: Students should be able to swim freestyle and backstroke at least halfway across the pool with no assistance, side breath, tread water, and have knowledge of breastroke kick.
- Children will strengthen their endurance, learn to swim full laps of freestyle and backstroke, strengthen their stroke technique, and learn dolphin kick. After completing 2-3 sessions of the Blue level, children are ready for swim team!
Class Length: 25 minutes
7-10 Beginner – $22/class
- Ages 7 – 10 years
- Benchmarks: Children should be comfortable in the water, be able to blow bubbles, float on their back with little to no assistance, swim freestyle 10-15 feet, kick on their back 10 feet and take a breath while swimming freestyle.
- Children will learn to swim backstroke more efficiently, increase their endurance, swim halfway across the pool, learn breaststroke, and how to tread water.
Class Length: 25 minutes
7-10 Intermediate/Advanced – $22/class
- Ages 7 -10 years
- Benchmarks: Children should be able to swim at least halfway across the main pool with freestyle and backstroke, have knowledge of breastroke and side breathing.
- Children in this class will strengthen their endurance in all strokes, strengthen their technique in all stroke, tread water up to 1 min, learn or practice dolphin kick, and swim full laps of each stroke.
Class Length: 25 minutes
Beginner Swim Club – $23/class
- Ages 7-13 years old
- Benchmarks: Children must be able to swim full laps in the main pool without stopping or needing assistance, know how to swim freestyle with side breathing, backstroke and breastroke.
- Children in this class will gain stroke feedback, increase endurance, learn how to follow a swim set, kick with a kick board for multiple laps, swim multiple laps in a row. Beginner swim club swims up to 500 yards ( 20 laps) per practice. Children will also learn how to flip turn, open turn and dive.
Class Length: 30 minutes
Intermediate/Advanced Swim Club – $23/class
- Benchmarks: Must be able to swim freestyle with side breathing, backstroke and breastroke full lengths of the pool, have knowledge of dolphin kick and be able to swim 500 yards in 1 practice.
- Children in this class will be participating in a swim practice. This level swims between 500-700 yards per practice with breaks between each lap. Children will learn how to do flip turns, open turns, and dive.
Class Length: 35 minutes
Private Lessons – $48/class
- Ages 3 – 14 years old
- Private lessons are designed for children who need more attention than in group lessons. Children between 7-14 yrs old that do not meet the benchmarks for 7-10 lessons or swim club, or need extra support in specific areas of swimming.
