Chess – New Spring 2023

Learning to play chess comes with many beneficial advantages for a young mind. Chess teaches children critical thinking skills. They learn to plan ahead and come up with possible scenarios that could occur and how to strategically overcome them. In chess class, students learn to see and recognize patterns and how to solve problems. Many studies show that kids who take chess lessons perform better in math and reading exercises. Our chess program offers classes from beginners to advanced levels. During class, students are assigned chess puzzles to solve, and they challenge each other by competing in teams. Our students have loads of fun while their brains are constantly stimulated to figure out the next move.

Taekwondo – New Spring 2023

We use martial arts to develop fitness, confidence, self-discipline. We teach self-defense and emergency safety skills so students will be learning different techniques and skills such as poomsae, kicking, breaking, and sparring while gaining strength, flexibility, and agility. Taekwondo not only teaches self-defense but also the values of respect for others, community service, and personal growth. Through physical training, the students will learn patience, self-control, courage, passion, and teamwork. Character is developed through one’s habits, and by learning, practicing, and repeating good habits, our students are encouraged to grow into leaders and role models at home, school, and in society. (New students will need to purchase “padded sticks” from the instructor for $40. Basic uniforms & nunchucks may be ordered on Amazon but are not required by the first class.

Katia & Company Presents: Frozen!

Join Katia & Co for this charming and heartwarming tale of sisterhood and love. Actors will participate in a mini-audition process on the first day, and each be assigned a role to perform in the production. Rehearsals are spent learning songs and dances for the show, as well as basic acting and improvisation techniques and theater games. A great way to build character and resilience while boosting confidence and making friends.

Class will culminate in an informal performance for family and friends on the final day.

Miss Hales

Each week, young artists will be encouraged to explore the joy of art and self-expression discovering their own personal artistic style in art and design! Taking inspiration from the Masters such as Monet, Matisse, Degas, Van Gough and Vermeer, instruction will focus on line, shape and color and composition in a variety of art projects– creating art in pastels, pen and ink, collage and watercolor to produce an individual portfolio of their own masterpieces! Kate Hale has worked with children at Edna Maguire and the Middle School for several years – she loves sharing her passion and training in art with children and encouraging young artists to develop their own artistic skills.

Awesome Kids Yoga

Kindergarten to 4th grade Awesome Kids Yoga will provide a yoga enrichment class for youth in our afterschool program for the dates and times stated above. In these classes children will explore ways to take a more mindful approach to their world. We will focus on teaching traditional yoga poses, breathing exercises, meditation and relaxation techniques in a fun and playful way. Students learn important lessons in self-awareness, self-control, positive thinking and self- esteem. Each class begins with a group discussion followed by yoga poses customized to a daily theme.

If you like to bring your own yoga mat, please bring with them to class.

Golf

Whether this is the first exposure to golf or you’re looking to take your child’s game to the next level, we have a program to fit your needs. TGA has developed a Junior Golf Player Pathway to help guide families through the journey of learning and playing this amazing sport.

The pathway consists of four core TGA programs which are progressive in their skill level, knowledge requirements and challenges; yet also complimentary to one another so children can participate in all four programs throughout the year to continue developing and refining their game.
– We provide all equipment necessary to play so there is no additional investment required beyond registration.

– Our coaches are fully vetted, background checked, and trained on how best to coach children safely and effectively.

Tinker Tech two classes (K-2) and (3rd – 5th)

TinkerTech one-hour pop-up classes for children ages 5-12 encourage creativity and playful hands-on learning. TinkerTech is STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, Math) and works at the intersection of art, science and technology.

The TinkerTech curriculum is founded on design and engineering challenges that encourage creativity and teamwork. We encourage students to have ownership of their ideas, to make with a purpose to create a project that is meaningful to them and to share these projects within their communities.

TinkerTech has a licensed curriculum of copyrighted activities that align to US and UK education standards and is seeking partners who want to share our passion for inspiring this generation of digital natives. When students have the confidence to tinker and use technology creatively, they are one step closer to becoming the next generation of innovators and inventors.
